Walmart China Supply Chain Empowers Omni Channel Strategy

Nancy is currently Vice President of Ambient Logistics & Direct Import Operation for Walmart China and previously Vice President of Logistics Operations leading both ambient and perishable logistics operations teams. Nancy and her team keep bringing innovations to operations for larger capacity, stronger capability, better service, higher efficiency and lower cost to support business growth. Prior to her current service in Supply Chain, Nancy was the District Manager of Walmart Hypermarket in East China and General Managers of Sam’s Clubs. Nancy is a member of Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center Innovation Council as well as ECR and CCFA Supply Chain Committees. Nancy graduated from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and got an MBA degree from Tong Ji University.

Currently, Walmart operates a number of formats in China including hypermarket, Sam’s Club and supermarket with over 400 retail units covering more than 180 cities nationwide. Its logistic network mainly consists of 8 ambient distribution centers and 11 fresh distribution centers. By end of this year, it will unveil the first built-to-suit perishable DC. Walmart China focuses on the core and essence of retail and putting customers first as always. With the changing customers’ needs, Walmart is now focused on building a smart and digital Omni-channel retail business by

  • creating seamless, smart shopping experience for customers combining physical stores with digital platform such as our new-format “惠选 (Hui Xuan)” Supermarket;
  • providing multiple channels of O2O services to meet customer’s need, be it stock up, fill-in, quick trip or exploration;
  • forward-looking logistic network infrastructure, leveraging existing physical assets, integrating channel flows and applying tech (digitalization, mobility, GDSN etc.) to drive efficiency and reduce cost;
  • leveraging partnerships

With physical and digital infrastructure in place, technology enabled process optimizations and a highly engaged team, Walmart is moving fast to transform its business model and become the most trusted omni-channel retailer in China.
